Eureka 71A Hand-held Vacuum

RAVE: We chose the Eureka 71A hand-held vacuum for our light duty cleaning. Large vacuum sweepers know their place. They're great for big jobs and taking dust from carpets but they're not adept at removing crumbs or for cleaning between cushions and in cars.

This model plugs into the wall with a 20' cord and the suction is very good. It is a bit heavy at 5 pounds for a hand-held, but for short jobs it isn't too noticeable.

We were sold on this model because there are two motors, one for the revolving brush and one for the suction. It is bagless with a filter and the clear dust cup is easy to clean. I have carpeted stairs and cleaning the vertical face is particularly tiresome. The "Riser Visor," which is a clear plastic cover over the revolving brush, lifts up to expose the brush and allow easy cleaning of the risers.

The icing on the cake is that the filter is washable. There are no replacement costs for this - you just simply wash, wait for it to dry , and put it back on.

If you think this vacuum will replace the power of an upright or canister vacuum, you'll be disappointed. It's a great option for what it was designed to do - short cleaning stints in hard-to-reach places.
