When to Choose a Commercial Vacuum Cleaner?

A commercial vacuum cleaner is an important part of any business.  Also called industrial vacuum cleaners, these machines are more durable than their domestic counterparts in order to stand up to years of use.  They are designed to remove dirt and dust from both the floor and air.  Many different models are available, the most common being dry vacs, backpack vacs, uprights, wet-dry vacs, and heavy-duty vacuum cleaners.

Dry Vacs

Dry vacs are for those businesses who don't need to clean up wet messes.  They are available in upright, canister, handheld and backpack versions.  Indoor and outdoor models are also available. Some are corded, others are rechargeable, and still others are strapped on the shoulders.

Though the shop-vac brand is more popular for its wet/dry vacs, they also carry a large variety of these as well.  The options available depend on the type of vacuum you purchase.  You can expect too many options by way of hoses, cleaning tools, ergonomic designs, and others.

Backpack Vacuums

Backpack vacuums are specially designed to allow you total freedom to vacuum in hard-to-reach spaces.  They include a canister strapped to your back to collect dirt and debris with a long hose and wand with a a brush or lightweight head.  There are many different brands available, as well as varying price ranges.  Brands include Sanitaire, Dust Care and Royal (maker of Dirt Devil).  They are also available in wet-dry options and for specific industries.

Upright Vacuums

Upright vacuums are an extremely popular choice for office environments that don't need the heavy-duty options available in other commercial vacuum cleaners.  They're familiar because of their popularity in households for ease of use.  But unlike the household versions, they are sturdier and can be used for a lot longer.  They work best on carpet, but many have options for hard floors as well.

On-board tools are not always standard, as offices don't usually have drapes and upholstery that needs cleaning.  Expect to see your favorite domestic brands with commercial models such as Eureka, Hoover, and others.

Wet-Dry Vacs

Wet-dry vacs are usually what comes to mind when thinking of a commercial vacuum cleaner.  Unlike their dry vac counterparts, they can pick up spills and water.  They are popular in car repair shops, construction, factories and other industrial businesses.

Canister models are the most popular, but there are handheld, backpack and upright options.  While shop-vac is the most popular brand, other popular companies such as DeWalt, Sears, and even John Deere manufacture wet-dry vacs.

The canister models are usually sold based on the size in gallons and horsepower of the motor.  Many tools are available on these models you can't find on domestic lines such as a leaf-blower attachment and others.  If you work in a heavy industry, these are usually the vacuums of choice.

Heavy-Duty Vacuum Cleaners

Heavy-duty vacuum cleaners are also a very popular variety of commercial vacuum cleaner. These cleaners are available in many options, but are mostly uprights that are more durable.  These usually include at least a twelve inch broad path for cleaning, approval by OSHA and other workplace regulations, and a special filter that removes up to 99% of pollens and dust.
